Family Fund
The Family Fund was created to provide emergency assistance to children and their families. The fund has been used to provide basic necessities, to enhance the lives of children while in care as well as assist parents in their reunification efforts.
Monies have been made available to pay for food and clothing, eye glasses, furniture and school tuition.
Direct grants made through the Family Fund have enabled children to go to summer camp, participate in gymnastics classes, horseback riding lessons, and art classes.
The Family Fund has provided start-up money for reunification by providing beds, moving cost, utility payments and rent.
Family Fund Stories
* CASA volunteer Amanda visited "John" who was placed with his grandmother. "John" was removed from his home by the Department of Social Services because his mother had a substance abuse problem that prevented her from making sure he went to school, was provided with food, shelter and supervision. Mother was incapable of taking care of his basic needs. During the initial CASA visit to the home of the grandmother she learned that "John" desperately wanted to learn to play the old dusty, out of tune piano that was in the entry way of the home. His CASA volunteer saw this as an opportunity to give "John" a much needed creative outlet. A family fund request was fulfilled and the piano was tuned and lessons started.
